Bison Organic Chocolate Stout: Worthy of Obsession

I have loved the taste of dark beers ever since I tried my first Guinness. There is something about the creamy texture that is completely refreshing, especially when served at the perfect temperature. It is often hard for me to find my favorite beers in a local bar so I tend to frequent stores like Whole Foods or Total Wine that carry a more extensive selection. A great night for me includes drinking one of my favorite beers with a couple of friends.

Bison Organic Chocolate Stout

Bison Organic Chocolate Stout has been my favorite beer for quite a while now. It fulfills everything I want in a stout: taste and creaminess. For those who don't know, a stout is (in short) a dark beer. Granted, there are many tasty stouts out there, but this one seems to have perfected the balance. Drinking a typical "man's stout" like an Old Rasputin is a rare occurrence for me simply because of the overload of bitterness. Old Rasputin also has 9% ABV (alcohol by volume) compared to Bison's 5% ABV which is more of what I'm looking for when I'm relaxing with a beer at home.

Bison Brewing, located in Berkeley CA, has been around since 1989, the year I was born. They are an all-organic brewery which satisfies my ongoing conversion to an organic lifestyle. They have two other year-round beers: an Organic IPA and an Organic Honey Basil Ale. I haven't had the chance to try either of these yet but if my infatuation with their stout translates to these two other brews I may have to buy stock in the company.

In November of 2011 Bison held a taste test titled "Bison vs Guinness Stout Day Challenge." It was interesting for me to see some comparisons between two of my favorite stouts. The consensus from the 6 lucky bloggers who were chosen to take the test was that 'The Bison' was thicker and overall a more aromatic and complex stout. I second these statements.

If you're a lover or even a tolerator of dark beers, do yourself a favor and try a Bison Organic Chocolate Stout one day. You will not regret it; if you do, you can blame me.
